Sea Acceptance Test of HMAS Canberra (LHD) of the Royal Australian Navy
In March 2014 the first Canberra class landing helicopter dock (LHD) vessel victoriously accomplished the Sea Acceptance Test (SAT) in New South Wales and Victoria.
The ship supplied with Integrated Bridge System Console, a console which has been developed and manufactured by Sainsel, returned to Williamstown (Victoria) when prosperously finalized the Navigation and Propulsion System Test.
The IBSC is the first one of the two units ordered by BAE SYSTEMS and it is determined for the Australian LHD. It is based on design of the consoles which were installed on board of “Juan Carlos I”, the LHD vessel of the Spanish Navy, however it is adapted to requirements of the Australian Navy. For instance, the Australian vessel operators were not seated while working. Therefore the Australian Navy was obliged to make ergonomics studies and change the height of the desks, according to Australian standards and Lloyd legislation. It also led to modify the layout of equipment and the monitor inclination to allow correct visualization.
Aluminium is the material chosen for the new design instead of steel as it offers flexible solutions and a weight reduced console.
